 San Miguel de Allende's Parrish

 Civic Plaza

The Civic Plaza was originally built in 1555 next to the Plaza de la Soledad. It was this plaza, and  not the main square that was the hub of the town's activity in its time, serving both as the market place and the meeting place. Today, a large statue of Ignacio Allende on a horse dominates the plaza.  The large building on the northeast corner was once the College of San Fransisco de Sales attended by the heroes of the Independence Aldama, Umarán and Allende.

 Beaterio Santa Ana

At the end of the 18th century, Hipólito Aguado founded a congregation and  home for children here called Beaterio Santa Ana. In 1847 a church was built dedicated to Santa Ana, beautifully decorated with a smooth archway without a dome, a bell tower and altar, the Holy Family (La Sagrada Familia). The convent had a side entrance, arches, and a courtyard garden. The devout (Las beatas)  lived in poverty and devoted their lives to San Miguel el Grande. The former convent became the town market until 1958, when the Public Library was founded here. The local American community sponsor  the library. The former college and church were redecorated.

 Casa Allende Museum

The Casa Allende Museum is a two-story baroque building that dates back to the 18th century and, with its intricate stone and iron work, is a remarkable example of the homes built by the wealthy colonial nobility. This was the birthplace of Ignacio Allende, and now functions as a museum with exhibits highlighting Allende's role in the struggle for independence, as well as the history of the region

 Casa de la Cultura

The Casa de la Cultura promotes dance, visual arts, literature, theater and music workshops taught by specialists in each field. It is a space that fosters the integration of the community to the field of cultural and artistic events. Its purpose is to ensure the active participation of all sectors of society in the cultural development of the town, to enhance and expand the vision of reality, in order to transform it.

Casa del Mayorazgo de La Canal

This neoclassical mansion, Casa del Mayorazgo de La Canal, was once the home of the wealthy and influential De La Canal family, and now houses a branch of the National Bank of Mexico. Its enormous carved wooden main door, located on Canal Street, is evidence not only of the skill of the colonial craftsmen, but also of the status of the family.
